Watching the wheels go round (finally)

Friends,
Today I rode my lovely beach cruiser to the market and the beer store which marked the first time that I've spun the pedals in 5 weeks. The first 2 feet were scary, but it turns out that you don't forget how to ride a bike. This week has been huge in terms of personal freedom; I ditched the walker and rode my bike. The best part about this whole accident is being forced to use my brain in a different way and that it responds to images, songs and words in a more enhanced manner. It inspires me to dream bigger about the future, take on ideas for art or music, turn experience into a foundation for the next chapter of this crazy existence and push myself to get even more stoked!
And most importantly to spread the shred!
Hifive!

there is always more to learn.

To the eight people that read this thing, Photobucket This summer I wrecked myself on my bike pretty damn good; flail fractures of ribs 2-8 on the right side, punctured (& deflated) lung, broken collarbone and a fractured sacrum. I spent 4 days in the ICU and 3 days in acute care. I had a number of things done to me to repair the damage: 1/2"tube jammed 16cm into my lung, another tube in my junk, multiple x-rays, a CT scan, a titanium plate and 6 screws were installed in my collarbone, constant medical supervision, an epidural, I double fisted the morphine and epidural buttons, blood was drawn every morning at 7am, I ate nothing but chicken, beef or vegetable broth and jello for 3 days, my amazing wife - Rach fed me for 2 days because I was so drugged and hurt that I couldn't feed myself. It was a surreal experience. Photobucket Throughout this experience I had and still have the most wonderful support team; without you all this venture would have been a real pain in the ass. My wife Rachel never left my side and she instilled in me a comfort that I'll never be able to fully explain. The thoughtful messages and care packages have been incredible. Photobucket I have found that this wreck and experience has left me feeling unbelievably lucky and appreciative of the life I have lived and the life I GET to live. Photobucket So in closing to all of my friends: please make sure to have health insurance, recognize the risks associated with the things you do and do them well with confidence, don't half ass anything, (I think Willy said, "half of life is bending your knees and committing."), smile and say hello to everyone, love your friends & family, take advantage of your time, let time heal you, dream big, tell bad jokes, be patient, and ride bikes. love, George Photobucket Photobucket
